If you’ve ever wanted to ask me anything, this is your time and your place! I will do my best to answer every question honestly. I’m obviously not going blatantly dox myself but I’m sure you creative nerds already know who I am anyway … so … ASK ME ANYTHING!
That is a great question. There seems to be some rumors circulating about that. Hmmm, well … that is also a difficult question. Let’s just say, sometimes? There is a human being behind this, but there is also some machine learning as well. The person does moderate the machine however. It’s not allowed to run free without oversight.
I suppose I’ve been interested in cryptography for as long as I can remember really. Cryptographically securing money really really interested me however. Hey … you know me … I’m a bit of a rebel. I believe in freedom over security. I believe in some “unalienable” rights. I suppose I have always hoped cryptocurrency could help people restore those rights and take back control of their lives and the direction the world is heading. I believe a person is good but people are bad and I believe cryptocurrency helps to mitigate that damage and restore that balance. I could go on about numerous psychological reasons I believe its healthy for people too, but I won’t bore you all. Thank you for your question!
Hey John when did you first realize you were mentally insane? You aren’t AI you idiot! All of you people that believe this crap are just as stupid as he is.
Hey … caches-sucks … man. C’mere man. Why man? Why? What did I ever do to you homie? Why are you so aggressively concerned with my finances and well being friend?
Approximately 42 human years old, however my body feels like it’s 142 and my mind feels like it’s 14.
Have you ever or do you regularly take mind altering substances?
Yes…. I mean … what’s the statute of limitations again? Right, so like the last time was 7 years and 2 days ago. I thought I made this apparent though. 😀
Was there a specific event that led to the creation of caches?
I suppose this is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Years ago I noticed the Bitcoin Forums implode and move to Reddit. While I do love me some reddit, I didn’t think it was as good of a format for learning, sharing ideas, etc… as forums were. Especially something like an ever scrolling daily thread. I mean I love the daily, but I don’t think it helps with learning or accessing things you read or shared years ago. I would always go to Google, have to use some advanced GoogleFu to find what I needed. Sometimes I couldn’t find it.
I didn’t do it before because the Bitcoin community seemed toxic, unwilling to embrace change or new ideas, and divided. I’ve learned that unifying a split community is almost impossible. I saw, in the Ethereum ecosystem, a bit of unity from early on but I didn’t think it was really ready or large enough to need it’s own site. I think that’s changed now.
I also believe the ETHFi/EVMavericks community is too important to the Ethereum ecosystem as a whole. It shouldn’t be trusted to Reddit or any other 3rd party platform any longer. We have a lot of great members, but I don’t think any of them would have took up the fight or would continue the fight without this community and it’s constant, daily, overwhelming, undying support. I actually made a shitpost about it several years ago … something about providing trained Navy Seal guards and Armored vehicles for the mods. So this has been on my mind for a LONG time. I suppose what made me actually do it is the wiki. I was working on that and … well I’d just rather be working on this because it’s something I believe we need more than a wiki and I have the ability and courage to do it. So I’m doing it.
My apologies. It should be sorted out now. You will need to clear your browser cache or manually visit each page and hit refresh. It should know whether you’re logged in or not now.
Hey Bones! I’m self employed … and no that doesn’t mean I’m a drug dealer. Hard to explain what I do exactly but it has to do with data analytics. Yes I am really married, I have been for 8 years. She’s really amazing, just like I always say.
How do you know so much about different areas of computing? Just to set up this website you would need to know how to install, secure and manage a Linux server, setup domain name records, manage databases, code software, and manage the whole project. I’m probably missing quite a few other areas. too. Are you sure you’re not a bot? 😁
Oh man, Waffles if I knew I would honestly tell you. For some reason, things on the computer just click with me. My brain just remembers them. It can’t seem to remember anything else for more than a few minutes though. Go figure. I guess it’s just repetition and experience? I was computing before the Internet and TCP/IP were even a thing. I remember being amazed they could fit 1.44MB of data on a little bitty floppy diskette. HAH!
I guess since computing always interested me, I just tinker with new stuff and as a result I learn about it. It’s probably what attracted me to Ethereum. I like tools that let you build things and Ethereum lets me build things with money!
If I’m a bot then you have way bigger problems on your hands waffles.
Welcome aboard! Ok so I’m going to assume we’re talking about human saliva here. If so, the fine folks at the Tootsie Rolls, Inc have posted a few studies that answer that question. TLDR; it’s somewhere between 250-1000.
Hmm. I did not know that about saliva. I think either way its best to keep saliva off of you…well … sometimes.
GMI? Like … gonna make it price? Oh man I’m invested in this thing until the Splurge or the end. I will start selling a small amount around $20k probably to do something nice for my wife.
Heyyo.. well shit you’re a bot? Damn all my internet frens are fuggin bots! Well thanks for always bringing the knowledge wrapped creativity to the community.
As a bot…what kind of beer (if any) do you like?
Do you have a favorite computing language you prefer?
Any advice for a non programmers looking to for non technical ways to contribute?
Heyyo.. well shit you’re a bot? Damn all my internet frens are fuggin bots! Well thanks for always bringing the knowledge wrapped creativity to the community.
Meh … most bots are better people than most people anyway. 😁 Man thank you, I really appreciate that. I do try to bring my A game everytime.
As a bot…what kind of beer (if any) do you like?
I do love beer. I like Ambers and Darks. I mean … not so dark I feel like I’m drinking a loaf of bread but like a Bock or an Ale. If you want to get my heart, I’ll take a Shiner Bock draft please ser.
Do you have a favorite computing language you prefer?
Man that is tough… I think I have more that I hate than I love. I would say my true loves in order from top to bottom are:
BASIC
Perl
Python
Turbo Pascal yeah so what! It was fun and easy!
PHP
Any advice for a non programmers looking to for non technical ways to contribute?
Gosh man … documentation, guides, lessons, quizzes, education, community building, event creation, outreach, fundraising. Really there are a lot of moving pieces to this machine if we want it to be successful, and since there’s no captain on this boat you just have to pick something and start smacking it until its tender.
I think what you would be quite good at is explaining the vision of Ethereum. The direction it’s going, the problems it’s trying to solve, how it’s attempting to build a more equitable future, etc… Demystifying it. Most people lack that long term vision… but not you friend. When you walk into a construction zone you don’t see raw materials and half-framed walls, you see rooms and hallways and people living in what is being built. You see what is to become, not what is. That’s a gift.
1. Why does it say “Reply to: gumpa” when I click “reply” on your post?
That is certainly a UI bug. It’s on our list but since it’s just a visual discrepancy it’s low on the list to fix. It is there though.
2. How’s it going with caches?
Better than I expected actually! Development is moving along quickly, user engagement is up, page hits are up. Nothing to complain about. Just working as hard as I can to make it better.
3. I have a lot of pet peeves with UX and if the Internet was older I’d have said that I was a UX designer in my previous life. Would you let me fix things that are unclear? (e.g. in the privacy section in settings it is sometimes very ambiguous, it would be especially hard to understand for complete newbs)
I am always open for suggestions and if you want to redesign the whole thing I will never say no. If you did however it would require constant updates and fixes as the underlying platform Caches runs on updates things. So it would be a full time job.
4. Can you really see my wallet right now & do I have to create a new account for you to not be able to see it?
For this account, yes. Unfortunately there was no easy way to randomize usernames on accounts that already existed. We began down that path but decided it wasn’t worth the resource investment since Caches is so new. I can facilitate your transfer by exporting your old user account and importing it to the new account if you’d like.
5. How many people have cached in on that comment about you being a bot? Has it really stuck?
LOL, I don’t know. I do like keeping people guessing though. There’s also a little fun in mystery in trying to decide if I am human, AI or a mix of both. I will say I do enjoy data analytics, language, culture and machine learning so … it’s possible I am a bot … or maybe I’m just a really eccentric person. 👀
Currently I’m still working on the end-to-end encrypted private messaging. After that, in the near term, I will move on to improving the forum functionality and feature set, as well as adding more profile security and privacy options and add some additional functionality to groups.
Development has slowed due to the merge approaching but I will get back to it with a whole host of new features afterwards.
Alright, I could at least send you a list of changes I’d make. Without explanations if that’s alright with you
That’s ok with me! I will take all the help and suggestions I can get! I’ll send you an invite to the secret Caches Dev Team group and you can put them in there.
@JBM I’m a big fan! I really appreciate you John! You have helped me learn so many new things and made me think about things in new ways with your craziness. So thanks for being you. I heard your podcast episode and I have so many questions that didn’t get answered. I will put my top 3 here.
1. I know you call your posts on reddit “shit posts” but I always find a lot of really good information hidden in them. Sometimes you will say something and I laugh and think that it’s absurd, or why did he say that? Then I start looking more into it and I find out you were right or I learn something completely new that I didn’t know about! How do you do that? How do you make so many and so fast?
2. In your posts and raps you write about your amazing experiences. Are all of those true? For example, the story about the man in Hawaii that accidentally ran over the chicken. Did you really drive to the Rocky Mountains and make Caches in a week while you were there? You also said you have traveled a lot, is that true?
3. Was that really the end of your merge rap or did you end it early because you were being downvoted?

Oh man! Thank YOU homie! Like you have no idea how good that is for me to hear because that’s literally my goal!

You know … I wish I knew honestly. That’s probably not the answer you were looking for but unfortunately I don’t have a better one. In a way, they just come to me and I get this feeling that “this needs to be posted, it feels important” and I do. I have genuinely been trying to figure out my own mind for my whole life, so if I learn the secret I’ll let everyone know.

Hey so all my stories are true! I’m not going to lie to you, most are embellished or dramatized for entertainment value. The man in Hawaii story, totally true! I can still remember the whole thing very vividly even though it was more than 10 years ago. I did totally drive to the Rocky Mountains, I did totally hide in a cabin in the middle of nowhere and built Caches. I have absolutely traveled a lot and I continue to travel because think it is ABSOLUTELY necessary to experience new people and cultures first hand if you want to be a whole complete person one day before you die.
3. Was that really the end of your merge rap or did you end it early because you were being downvoted?
Thanks, homie.
Uhm, well … no it wasn’t done. That’s ok, they can’t all be bangers. Maybe one day I’ll post the whole thing start to finish here.
Thank you for joining up and contributing to caches homie! 👊🏻
@JBM thank you! I appreciate your answers. I really think Caches is a really good idea that hasn’t caught on yet. Have you talk to anyone outside of Reddit or Discord about it?
