What OS is everyone using on their staking machine?
Posted by binarybones on July 11, 2022 at 7:02 pmI have an Intel NIC with 2 x 2TB SSD’s running Ubuntu 20.04 right now. I just followed a guide I found online, but is there anything better out there? Are there any additional security upgrades I should do?

Hey Bones thanks for joining up man! I think Ubuntu is your best bet for now. I’m not aware of any ETH Validator specific linux distributions. There’s ethOS for mining ETH, maybe they will make a validator version after the merge.

Thanks brother. Are you doing manual updates or do you have some sort of automatic update? I’m concerned that one day I might be away from my staking machine and unable to update it in a timely manner. Knowing my luck, that would happen right when a big security flaw was discovered.

I set auto-updates for the same reason. There’s a risk if the update breaks something. I think I would rather have something broken, and send me an alert, than be exploited though. Just keep regular snapshot backups in case an update breaks something. Give me a little time and I will try and put together my validator box best practices guide.

Man, can’t wait for your guide. I’m not a Linux n00b, but I am not an expert either. Thanks for the info bro.

Hey @BinaryBones check out the new post I made for more staking extras. It’s not my guide, but there is some good info and resources in there for you.
